Nothin’ but a Grind – documentary from Richard Cameron White on Vimeo.
“The reality of it is… inside each one of you… there is a destiny”
It was this line that really summed up this 8 minute documentary-come-trailer for the American Football 360 school. It’s one of the main reason I love America as well. Everyone, from birth, seems to be imbued with a sense of the theatre. Each sound bite from the trailer could easily be taken from a Hollywood blockbuster.
Watching this and thinking of the people of the US I wonder whether they ever get exhausted by such epic dialogue, whether it ever loses any of its impetus. This is the richest country in the world (if only for a few more years before China surpasses them) yet they approach every sentence, every word and every letter here as if they were being asked to define ‘underdog’.
Please don’t confuse my diatribe here with me actually disliking the film. The opposite is in fact true. I loved it. Life is such a short affair that the way we live it, the actions and events we take part in ought to feel as meaningful as possible. In the UK there’s always an undertone of downplaying what’s going on. I think our sports academies and our education system could take a lot from this film and the philosophy it has in engaging kids and motivating them to work hard.
